Anti-Counterfeiting
Counterfeiting is a growing problem in the World economy. It is estimated that more than 5% of World trade is in counterfeit goods. EU seizures of counterfeit goods increased by 13% in 2008 with a 50% increase in fake medicines.
Anti-Counterfieting Features (ACF), often realised as holograms or other optical effects, are a key element in the front line in detecting and defeating this trade. The application of ACF devices starts at the validation of the currency and credit cards in each consumer’s pocket. However they are also being deployed in a wider marketplace to prevent unqualified, untested, products reaching the consumer in products such as medicines, car and aircraft parts, software, media and toys.
The intellectual property and know-how within the Arkiris team will allow the development of complex, yet simply realised, features that will provide enhanced security at a reduced cost.
